Before we continue, this is the post from foreground.co.in that featured me in one of their blog post.
Every artist’s journey is a unique experience, singular to them. Whether it’s how they started out or found their medium, or tuning what their pieces have to say to the world, every artist’s story is a different one.
Indonesian artist Ngurah Anggawijaya has known art all his life. His father – a musician constantly encouraged him to explore art in various forms. Allowing this artist to be a part of that world of creativity for as long as he could remember.
However, since 2015 – Ngurah has gained more clarity on his artistic endeavours and now focuses on Watercolours, motorcycles, urban sketches and machinery channeling all his creativity into his beloved personal work titled, Sketch Ride Project.
“Art to me, makes my life more colourful and meaningful. It can drive one’s feelings and propel thought,” adds Ngurah.
In this exclusive collection for Foreground, Ngurah Angna (as he is known by many) revisits iconic architecture of Indonesia with fresh perspective. Mixing pen and ink to give you a point of view on architecture, whose history, beauty and heritage precedes them.
Cathedral Church
Dutch Colonial House
What is clear from this collection, is Ngurah’s ability to capture the life of these spaces without compromising on his personal style and the art that is embedded into the very fabric of every piece to begin with. How does he do it?
“I just imagining the object in watercolour and then draw from my imagination, without overriding the real object structure. While the object holds the main pattern, I paint with my imagination and technique, as well,” says Ngurah.
Kota Tua (Old City)
Monumen Nasional
Whether it’s sketching urban scenes or motorcycles, Ngurah’s passion of art something he holds very dear. Driven by feelings, this artist looks to create pieces that resonate feelings, both of his own and his viewers. Be it sight, smell or sound – Ngurah’s work is all about transporting you to a place where you can truly experience what he as seen; instead of looking at an illustrations and wondering what it would be like to see it up close.

Pasar Baru Market
If this collection is any indication, there is one truth to artist/ illustrator, Ngurah Anggawijaya, and that is, regardless of what he’s doing, this is a man who is his best when he is immersed in his imagination and channeling creativity. A mind space every artist calls home, is where this Indonesian illustrator both belongs and thrives.
